![]() | Freedom Matters began in 2001 as a weekly email newsletter borne out of an intense need to broadcast information about the wrongs being forced upon innocent land owners under the guise of responsible stewardship. We believe that people matter, and their hopes and dreams matter, and that as our Founding Fathers set forth in the famous durable Constitution of the United States of America, Government shouldn't be involved in limiting or taking away life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness (in particular, in the form of property and our equity in such)! As we enter 2005 we are eager to increase our ability to inform fellow citizens of the outrageous predicaments that can suddenly befall unsuspecting and sometimes desperate property owners. We hope to network with active forces across Wisconsin and this great nation to allow for provisions to be put into law that will uphold the high morals espoused by the Founding Fathers and protect the present and future value invested in property all across this great land.By now all of us should have realized that the only thing that moves a legislative agenda along is the influence derived from large blocks of votes. If we all join together in a statewide effort we'll get things done! We'd love to hear your comments or suggestions for important topics to cover! The Freedom Matters editorial board meets regularly. If you would like to attend, please contact us. We would be happy to have you join us! We are available for seminars and lectures. If you have a group that is concerned with Wisconsin property values and property rights we invite you to network with us. |

Ever since the Smart Growth law went
into the statutes, many disciples of the anti-sprawl movement have been
studying how to manage the planning process that the law mandates.
Smart Growth sounds so terribly responsible and appropriate, many a casual observer is not even mildly suspicious about the process, much like the contented frog in the slowly heating water. With
the eager assistance offered by a cadre of academics,
environmentalists, and politicians, the strategies have emerged that
will yield a final assault on what is left of traditional American
property rights and ultimately, the United States Constitution.
When the Smart Growth Law was signed, all
of these players were on hand to toast their success at putting the law
past the critics by a single vote. ONE CONSTITUENCY WAS CONSPICUOUSLY
ABSENT: PROPERTY OWNERS...the people whose very assets were now
considered to be "on the table for discussion."
THAT is why we formed FREEDOM MATTERS. We are through bemoaning the injustice from our respective corners. It is time to amass our collective strength and run with the proverbial ball.
Many
local elections are determined by candidate's personalities as much as
issues, and demographics changes in rural areas near urban centers are
causing many township boards to de-prioritize property rights
protections.
In short, we cannot influence a local election
very often. However, the Greater Association of Concerned Property
Owners and rights advocates across this state amount to tens of
thousands of voters--enough to swing a race for the Governor.
It
is time, friends, to get serious. We need a FULL TIME presence in the
Wisconsin Legislature...and that means FUNDING. So look for an update
at What's New, check out our list of valuable links at Resources, read more About Us, or read some of our back issues of the Freedom Matters newsletter. Work with us! Let us know how you think we can win the fight to protect freedoms for our next generation. Our Wisconsin heritage is at stake!
